ADA AND THE ENGINE
by Lauren Gunderson
Online and In-Person Socially-Distanced
In Lauren Gunderson’s (Silent Sky) exploration of music, math and genius, Ada Byron Lovelace bucks the conventions of her Victorian time. As she comes of age under a stern mother and in the shadow of her scandalous father, Lord Byron, we see her brilliance in conflict with 19th century conventions. Although her dear friend Charles Babbage conceives of the first “analytical engine” or proto-computer, Ada has a vision for his innovative machine that will change our world forever.
