The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre presents Blood Wedding, a new adaptation of the Spanish masterpiece by Federico García Lorca. Inspired by the rhythms and passion of Flamenco, Lorca captured the voice of the common people and the spirit of his land.

On the morning of her wedding day, a young bride receives a visitor from her past, rekindling passion and the fury of an age-old family feud..

This beautiful, dark and musical play weaves a world that would later inspire such artists as Gabriel García Márquez where the supernatural walks among the everyday world.

BRYAN RAFAEL FALCÓN

Bryan (Director) is Co-founder and Artistic Director at the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre.  Bryan is an award-winning director (MFA Directing, Western Illinois, 2001) and tech entrepreneur with a passion for both education and building and scaling successful organizations.  

At the S&S Bryan has directed Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Love Talker & The Yellow Wallpaper, Oscar Wilde's Salomé, There is a Happiness That Morning Is and A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney, for which he won the 2017 Arizona Daily Star Mac Award for Best Director.

Bryan served as Artistic Director for two Indiana-based theatre companies, New World Arts and the Backporch Theatre Company. He served as a director and set designer for numerous shows, including The Carthaginians, Lysistrata, Cloud Tectonics, Night Mother, Bug, Marisol, Love Letters, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet.

In Tucson, Bryan has directed at The Rogue Theatre, including The New Electric Ballroom and Awake and Sing. He was recognized as Best Director (2012 Arizona Daily Star Mac Award) for the show The Night Heron.

Bryan serves as board Vice-Chair of the Tucson-based Southwest Folklife Alliance, and as a board member at The Rogue Theatre. 

Melissa Alejandra Aguirre Fernández

Melissa Alejandra’s (Music Director/Choreographer) propensity for the arts surfaced at an early age, developing a diverse range of talents from acting, to singing, to dance, to teaching - and has performed on local, national and international stages.  Originally from Sonora, Mexico and raised in Tucson, Arizona, she grew up in two cultures, fully bilingual on and offstage.  She's active in film, theatre and voice over work, Latin, Broadway and pop music, and a variety of dance styles, especially Flamenco, Tango and Salsa, in addition to teaching dance and choreographing.  Her transnational heart has taken her to 26 countries so far, enriching and fostering her art, education, experience, knowledge, love and connection to humanity and culture across the globe, and inadvertently nurturing a role as a cultural ambassador of sorts.  She is happy to help channel Spain and Flamenco into this beautiful project, Blood Wedding.  She has studied with various teachers including Juana Amaya and El Torombo in Sevilla, and has been strongly influenced and impacted by the legendary Flamenco dynasty that is, the Farruco family.  Spain and Flamenco are a life-line to which she is deeply connected to and from which she will always draw from, and she is pleased to bring a taste of these two to Scoundrel and Scamp audiences … ¡Arsa y toma!

Elizabeth FALCÓN

Elizabeth (Translation) is a poet, musician, and teacher with a passion for hybrid form and mixed media. She received her MFA in poetry from the University of Arizona in 2011, where she studied under poets Laynie Browne and Steve Orlen. Elizabeth also has a passion for teaching. She teaches at Tucson Waldorf School and will receive her Waldorf Grades Teaching Certification in 2019.

Susan Arnold

Susan Arnold (Mother of the Bridegroom) has enjoyed an extensive background in both theatre and film as an actor, director, writer and producer.  Her most recent appearance on local stage was with Winding Road Theater Ensemble as the Poet in An Illiad. Additional credits include Caesar in Julius Caesar, Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth with Stephen F. Austin University, Gertrude in Hamlet with Southwest Shakespeare, Claire in The Maids and Duchess of York in Richard III with the Rogue Theatre, Barbara in Three Hotels and Big Eight in Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage with Beowulf Alley Theatre, in Tucson.

Susan served as Artistic Director for the award-winning Attic Theatre in Detroit where she appeared as Molly in Molly Sweeney, Mac in Three Viewings, Maria in Twelfth Night, Patsy in A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, and Mo in The Kathy and Mo Show. The Attic Theatre produced a six-show season, an education and outreach program for inner-city youth, and a community based workshop series for adolescents and adults.

An active member of Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors Equity Association, Susan continues to pursue work in the Theatre and Film industry and is the recipient of several Theatre Excellence awards for both directing and performing. She is thrilled to be working with Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre and wishes to dedicate this performance to Clayton and Marie Arnold.

Callie Hutchison

Originally hailing from the great state of Minnesota, Callie (The Neighbor Woman) gladly escaped the frozen northern clutches of the Twin Cities for the searing heat of Tucson, and ever since can be found performing all over southern Arizona as an actor and musician.  This includes productions at The Bennett Theatre Lab, The Rogue Theatre, Something Something Theatre, Roadrunner Theatre Company, the Tucson Repertory Orchestra, and as a founding member of the Engelmann Quintet, and the Sky Island Chamber Society.  When she's not acting, teaching or playing the violin, she directs the Cochise County Youth Orchestra and the Cochise College Orchestra. Occasionally she sleeps.

JULIA BALESTRACCI

Julia (Mother-in-Law of Leonardo) most recently appeared in Eurydice and Mr. Burns, a post-electric play at the Scoundrel and Scamp. An East Coast transplant, she has been involved in the performing arts in many capacities over the years, from acting and puppetry, as an original member of Brooklyn theater company Drama of Works, to various forms of folk music and dance, to ensemble and solo performances singing operatic, classical, and early music repertoire. She has performed at diverse venues including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Harvard University, Avery Fisher Hall, HERE Arts Center, and at various festivals including the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.  Julia has a M.M. in voice from Longy School of Music of Bard College, and a BA in Theater Studies from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School.

Nicole DelPrete

Nicole DelPrete (Wife of Leonardo) is currently a sophomore studying Theatre and English at the University of Arizona. She is very thankful that this is her second show with Scoundrel and Scamp. Previously, Nicole played Carmen in This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing here at Scoundrel and Scamp. Recent productions she has been a part of would be: Three Sisters (Natasha), Flowers for Algernon (Alice Kinnian), Big Love (Thyona), and The Rimers of Eldritch (Patsy). She also is a part of the Charles Darwin Experience, an improv troupe at University of Arizona. She would like to thank her family and friends for their loving support.

Jeffrey Baden

Jeffrey Baden (Leonardo) is honored to be making his debut appearance with Scoundrel and Scamp, and with such talented artists. Before this production, Jeffrey played Romeo in Shakespeare in the Park, Tucson’s production of Romeo and Juliet.  He also played Benny in the Pima Community College production of In the Heights.  Jeffrey has worked with Winding Road Theatre in It Can’t Happen Here and Spring Awakening.  Jeffrey has studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England.

Xochitl Martinez

Xochitl Martinez (Young Girl) first started acting at a young age in school productions. She started taking classes at Live Theater Workshop three years ago and has performed in numerous productions such as Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Alice in Wonderland (Dodo Bird), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Nick Bottom), and The Lion King (Scar). She loves music and plays the piano and clarinet. She is now a freshman at University High School and hopes to continue pursuing her passion for theater.

Felipe Genio Hernandez de Beiñero

Felipe Genio Hernandez de Beiñero (Philip G. Bennett) (Father of the Bride) is an actor, teacher, director and author. Artistic Director of the Bennett TheatreLab & Conservatory; graduate of the American Stanislavski Theatre, where he was Assistant Artistic Director and made his New York debut as Lopachin in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard.  Now celebrating his 50th Anniversary as a teacher of the Stanislavsky System.In Tucson, he has appeared with the Rogue and Borderlands Theatre Companies.  He is delighted to be with Scoundrel & Scamp. Phil is co-author of Experiencing Stanislavsky Today: Routledge Academic Publishers, and The Living Actor a Video Textbook on the Bennett TheatreLab Channel, YouTube.

Kat Mcintosh

Kat McIntosh (Maid) is thrilled to be making her S&S debut.  Most recently, she played Mika in The Mermaid Hour and Miguel in A Tucson Pastorela, both with Borderlands Theater. Previous credits include five seasons with Southwest Shakespeare Company, two seasons with Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, and three national tours with Cleveland Signstage Theatre.  Kat studied at The National Theater Institute as well as The Moscow Art Theatre and holds a BA in Theater from Wellesley College as well as an MFA in Acting from Trinity Rep Conservatory.

Claire De La Vergne

Claire (Bride) is thrilled to be performing with The Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre for the first time. Claire holds a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Arizona and has 3 years of training in the Stanislavsky System with The Bennett TheatreLab and Conservatory. Most recently, Claire was seen as Agnes in Agnes of God with The TheatreLab, as well at The Rogue Theatre in Much Ado About Nothing and Galileo. Claire would like to thank her parents for their always needed and appreciated support, as well as everyone involved in this production for their kindness and creativity.

EMILY Fuchs

Emily Fuchs (Ensemble) is a senior at the University of Arizona, studying Theatre Arts and Creative Writing. She graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts from Pima Community College in May of 2017. Notable roles include Masha in Three Sisters and Harriet in Sticks and Bones. She is very excited to be working with this talented cast and crew! China Young

China Young (Ensemble) is originally from Texas, but has been a part of the Tucson theatre community since 2010. She holds a BFA in Acting from Texas Tech University, an MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University, and trained at Stella Adler in NYC for Musical Theatre. 

A recent addition to the Winding Road Theatre Ensemble, China’s Tucson credits include Stupid F@!#ng Bird (Mash), Cabaret (Fraulein Kost), August: Osage County (Johnna), Les Misérables, Sweeney Todd, and performing intermittently with the musical comedy group Musical Mayhem Cabaret. In addition, China stage manages, directs, teaches, and writes/produces her own work, most recently earning “Most Subversive” at the 2018 Boulder Fringe Festival.  

She is very excited for this S&S debut and the opportunity to work with so many phenomenal Tucson artists.

Robert Voigt

Robert Voigt (Ensemble) is a freshman at the University of Arizona, currently studying Theatre Arts. New to the scene of acting, his favorite works include Nice Work if You Can Get It (as Cookie Mcgee) and Holes (as Zero and Armpit). Beginning his acting career with the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre, he is excited to be apart of this new community and bring this story to life.

Danny Quinones

Danny Quinones (Ensemble) is thrilled to be making his debut at the Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre.  He is a Pima graduate with a major in Cinematography for Film & Television. Some of his favorite works include Woman in Jeopardy (Live Theatre Workshop), Mamma Mia!: The Musical (Arizona Onstage Productions), The Drunkard (The Community Players), T’was The Night Before Christmas (Roadrunner Theatre), and The Music Man (Arizona Theatre Company).  He has had an amazing time getting to know everybody and is blown away by the talent, professionalism, and passion everyone in the cast and crew holds. Tyler Gastelum

Tyler Gastelum (Ensemble/Woodcutter) is beyond thrilled to be a part of his first Scoundrel & Scamp production. He has been seen on numerous stages around Tucson as both an actor and musician. Currently studying at The Bennett Theatrelab, Tyler is a Tucson native and graduate of the University of Arizona, where he minored in classical Vocal Performance. Recent roles include SPRING AWAKENING: IN CONCERT (Moritz Stiefel), STUPID FUCKING BIRD (Dev), and DOV AND ALI (Ali). He is honored to get to share a stage with so many renowned local artists. 

LANCE GUZMAN

Lance Guzman (Ensemble/Woodcutter) is a UofA Graduate and has been a part of many Studio Series plays and films, including Giants Have Us in Their Books and This Heart in My Mouth is Called Home. He aspires to continue to work in theatre while pursuing a film acting career. Lance appeared at the Scoundrel & Scamp in Oscar Wilde's Salomé and Mr Burns, a post-electric play.

Jorge Taborda

Jorge Taborda (Ensemble/Woodcutter) is excited to be working on Blood Wedding with The Scoundrel and Scamp. He is currently studying The System of Psychophysical Actions and Active Analysis with Philip G. Bennett at The Bennett TheatreLab and Conservatory. Some of his favorite performances are Ken from Red and working alongside Rick Wamer in Mimosphere 2018. He would like to thank Bryan and Elizabeth Falcón for being a part of the incredible cast and crew, and his friends and family for their love and support.

Adrian Encinas

Adrian (Ensemble/Moon) is currently studying Theatre at Pima Community College. Adrian’s favorite productions that he has been in are Priscilla: Queen of the Desert the Musical (Adam Whitely), A Tucson Pastorela (Gabriel), A Brave Knight, Sir Lancelot (BOB), & Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama (Thin Warrior). He has worked with many professional theatre companies in Arizona & Ohio, such as, Borderlands, Live Theatre Workshop, Stories That Soar, Murder and Mystery Dinner Theatre Playhouse, & The Scioto Society, Inc. Leora Sapon-Shevin

Leora (Ensemble) is a performer and playmaker with a passion for collaborative creative expression. She holds an MA in Theater Education, is a graduate of Dell'Arte International, and performs locally with Stories that Soar!, Unwritten, and Unscrewed Theater's musical improv team From The Top. She was over the moon to debut her solo show, "The Gonzo Hour", at the Tucson Fringe Festival this January, and is very grateful to be returning to The Scoundrel and Scamp theater after appearing in "This Girl Laughs..." here in the fall. Loads of thanks to her family and friends for their loving support and to Scoundrel and Scamp for the opportunities to grow.

Pablo Rodarte

Maestro Rodarte directed his private studio out of Denver, Colorado offering individual and group training in Spanish dance, flamenco and the bolero school. He offers fall, spring and summer sessions including workshops. His craftsmanship as a teacher and a coach has been highly valued by the University of New Mexico where he has taught for the past 12 years as adjunct professor. Founder and Director of the School of Flamenco & Spanish Dance and Company (Dance Espana), Mr. Rodarte has dedicated 40 years of his life to the art of Flamenco and Spanish Dance. Barbara Schuesser

Barbara Schuessler, aka Barbara “La Flamencista,” began her flamenco dance training in Tucson, Arizona in 1985. Her training took her to workshops and personal study all throughout the United States and Spain. Studying in Sevilla, Spain is the highlight of her training as a flamenco dancer. 

Her love of dance and movement started as a young child and has carried her through many forms and disciplines, but, flamenco captured her heart. For her, “flamenco encompasses life, with all the emotions and frailties of our human existence. The pulse of the rhythms ignite the soul.” Her passion is teaching and she currently teaches adults and children. 

Jason Jamerson

Jason Jamerson (Scenic & Properties Design) is a third year grad student in Scenic Design at the University of Arizona. He is originally from Virginia, but worked in the New York theatre scene for 12 years before moving to Tucson. Jason taught Scenic Design at Columbia Preparatory School in Manhattan for seven years, has worked with the International Schools' Theatre Association, and has collaborated with several other local organizations, including TEDx Tucson and Live Theatre Workshop.

Maria Caprile

Maria Caprile (Costume Design) is the co-artistic director of Winding Road Theater Ensemble. Costuming credits include UNITED, STUPID F#*!ING BIRD and THE FANTASTICKS for Winding Road Theater Ensemble, as well as numerous shows in Spokane, Washington, including OUR TOWN for Interplayers Theatre and DISNEY'S ALADDIN and RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA for Spokane Children's Theatre.  She was recently nominated for Arizona Star’s MAC award for her direction of  THE FANTASTICKS, which also received a nomination for Best Musical of 2018.

Gabriella De Brequet

Gabriella De Brequet (Hair & Makeup Design) is a local actor, costumer, props designer, and hair and make up designer here in Tucson. Some of her design credits with Scoundrel and Scamp include This Girl Laughs This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing (costume design), Salomé (make up/props design), Mr. Burns: a post electric play (props design), The Love Talker (props design), and The Yellow Wallpaper (props design). Other local design credits include Wait Until Dark (props design), The Laramie Project (costume design), All Shook Up (props design), and The Diary of Anne Frank (props design). Gabriella has also performed with The Scoundrel and Scamp as Salomé in Salomé, Beatrix in This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing, The Red Head in The Love Talker, and as Jenny in Mr. Burns: a post electric play. She has also been seen on The Rogue Theatre’s stage as Thomasina in Arcadia, Tanya in Jerusalem, Petita in The Bridge of San Luis Rey and The Angel in Dante’s Purgatorio. Gabriella most recently toured with Arizona Theatre Company’s production of The Music Man as the Youth Supervisor.

JOSH HEMMO

Josh Hemmo (Lighting Design) is from Tucson, AZ where he received his BFA in Theatre Design and Production from the University of Arizona. Last season at the S&S Josh designed Two Plays for Lost Souls, Oscar Wilde's Salomé and Mr Burns, a post-electric play. Past credits include Cleopatra: A Pop Experience (Theater for the New City, NYC), The Producers (Arizona Onstage Presents), and Chicago and Crazy for You (Post Playhouse). Molly Feeney

Molly (Sound Design) is a senior BFA student at the University of Arizona studying Sound Design & Engineering within the Design & Technology program. She has served many roles for ART productions within the sound department, most recently being Production Audio Engineer for Sister Act the Musical (Senior Capstone) and Sound Designer for Top Girls.  Outside of school she has recently become a Production Audio Engineer at local venue The Historic Hotel Congress. She also works as an Audio Engineer for Arizona Pro Sound Inc., and has been employed with the Fred Fox School of Music for almost 2 years now. After graduation in May, she will be joining Trollwood Performing Arts in Minnesota for their summer musical season, serving as their head audio technician. She would like to thank the S&S design team for creating such a fun and collaborative environment to work in.

Angelina Valencia

Angelina (Dramaturg) is a third-year Generative Dramaturgy MFA candidate and is very excited to be working on Blood Wedding. She graduated from the University of Arizona in 2016 with a BA in Theatre and a minor in music. Her past dramaturgical experience includes working with Chicago Dramatists, the UA Studio Series’ Generation Z, Generator: The Death of Arthur, and ART’s Rent.

DYLAN WELKER

Dylan L. Welker (Assistant Director) will graduate from the University of Arizona with a double major in Theatre Arts and Italian Studies. During his time in university, he has been heavily involved with the UA Studio Series, he has studied physical theatre at the Accademia dell’Arte in Tuscany, and he was previously seen on the Scoundrel & Scamp stage as Tigellinus in Salomé. He hopes to continue learning and growing as an artist both here and abroad, and would like to thank Bryan Falcón for offering his wisdom and kindness as a mentor and friend.

Marguerite Saxton

Marguerite (Production Assistant) started as an actor at the age of 8 and gradually found herself intrigued in the behind the scenes world. She is a playwright, creative theatre tech, and director-in-training who has worked with various Tucson  troupes, including the All Soul’s Procession, Flam Chen, Pima Community College, and Borderlands Theater. She most recently worked with Scoundrel & Scamp as the stage manager for My Life in Sports. She is interested in new works, re-told stories, surreal, absurd, beautiful, provoking, and challenging pieces of art based in movement and sound.
