How can a princess who has no gravity fall in love?

In this musical adapted from George MacDonald’s fairy tale, a king and queen are desperate to have a child. They turn to a witch for a solution, but “there is always a price.” Their daughter is born without gravity and must find it before her 16th birthday or else... Wise men, witches, princes all attempt to come to the rescue. This enchanting musical comedy is a Valentine for the whole family, appropriate for Scoundrels and Scamps alike.

Michelle Milne

Michelle Milne (Director) directed Every Brilliant Thing at Scoundrel & Scamp last year, and worked with Wolfe Bowart on Cloud Soup. She works as a director, performer, writer, and educator across the US. Recent directing includes Brontë (Drammy for Best Production, Portland), Eurydice, Macbeth, and Julius Caesar. She regularly performs with Ted Swartz in We Own This Now, a play about the Doctrine of Discovery; and with musician Heather Kropf in their original show about traveling home, We Know There Are Oceans. Michelle is a Feldenkrais Method practitioner, and has taught theatre and movement to college students, incarcerated men and women, and to the general public. Next up, she directs Cymbeline at Goshen College (Indiana).

Lisa Otey

Lisa (Music Director) is thrilled to work with Scoundrel & Scamp and the cast of The Light Princess. She is a pianist at the Gaslight Theatre, where she directed the music from 1992-2004. Lisa has also played keyboards for Arizona Theatre Company (Love, Janis; Xanadu; Pajama Game; Emma; Barefoot in High Heels) and directed music for the Invisible Theatre (Nunsense; Meshuggah-Nuns). She appears locally and tours internationally with vocalist Diane Van Deurzen as well as The Desert Divas. www.lisaotey.com

Olivia Rivera

Olivia Rivera (Acrobatics Captain/Elemental) originally from Kodiak, Alaska, is thrilled to be apart of her first Scoundrel & Scamp production. Olivia has previously been featured in La Ronde at The Screening Room as “the young wife” and was a featured performer in Spider Silk Circus’s Fringe production of Currents. She gained all her knowledge of partner acrobatics and circus from her work with The Circus Academy of Tucson. Olivia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts from the University of Arizona. Outside of theatre Olivia trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitively at Sonoran Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You can also find her dancing the can-can at Old Tucson! She wants to extend the biggest thank you to Ryan for your never ending patience with the whacky hours.

Grace Otto

Grace Otto (Princess) is, was, and forever will be obsessed with the kaleidoscope of humanity, exploring it through any artistic medium she can. Her more recent theatrical works include 3 devised pieces (Gen Z with Annette Hillman, Generator with Greg Pierotti, and Sinkers with Wolfe Bowart), acting/writing in an original piece for the Black Box Fringe Festival, and most recently acting in The Revolutionists as Charlotte Corday (Something Something theatre). She is a graduate from the University of Arizona with a BA in theatre, where she found her love for the creation of original material.  After this production, she will be taking a brief hiatus from theatre, shifting gears to work on writing/recording her first album. That being said, she is over the moon to be returning to the Scoundrel & Scamp, and would like to dedicate this performance to her mother and grandmother for their endless love, support, and groundedness.  Enjoy! 

Gretchen Wirges

Gretchen Wirges (Queen) is excited to be appearing in her fourth production at Scoundrel & Scamp, including Eurydice and the recent productions of The Little Prince and The Thanksgiving Play. She has been acting, directing and writing for Tucson stages for nearly 10 years. Gretchen is also an accomplished improv teacher and performer. She  performs around the country with her long-form improv duo Ex-Boyfriend. She is the President of the Tucson Fringe Festival Board and writes for the feminist-oriented theater review site Taming of the Review.

David Gunther

David Gunther (King) is excited for his debut at Scoundrel & Scamp! He's been a part of the theatre circuit in Tucson for years, from The Dover Road and Upton Abbey at The Comedy Playhouse, to The Body in the Bath at Beowulf, and The Foreigner at The Community Playhouse. Most recently, he's been performing improv as part of the From the Top, Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed, and Comic Chaos house teams at Unscrewed Theatre, and at various stand-up comedy open mics around Tucson. David has a strong passion for storytelling and humor, and hopes you'll find as much magic in your experience of The Light Princess as we have in bringing it to life.

Aubrey King

Aubrey King (Prince) is delighted to be in his first production with Scoundrel & Scamp! In 2017, he graduated with his BFA in Acting at the University of Arizona. Credits include The Comedy of Errors, The Tempest, Cabaret, Othello, Frankenstein, and Oklahoma! with Arizona Repertory Theatre. Recent productions include Of Mice and Men and King Charles III with Arizona Theatre Company. Aubrey plans to write original works to begin playwriting, directing and producing. He would like to thank his boyfriend, friends, and family for all their love and support. He wouldn't be here without their love and support!

Julia Balestracci

This is Julia’s (Witch) third season and fifth production with the Scoundrel & Scamp, most recently as an ensemble member of The Little Prince.  An East Coast transplant, she has been involved in the performing arts in many capacities over the years, from acting and puppetry, as an original member of Brooklyn theater company Drama of Works, to various forms of folk music and dance, to ensemble and solo performances singing operatic, classical, and early music repertoire. She has performed at diverse venues including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Harvard University, Avery Fisher Hall, HERE Arts Center, and at various festivals.  Julia has a M.M. in voice from Longy School of Music of Bard College, and a BA in Theater Studies from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School.

Katie Burke

Katie Burke (Wise One #1) is excited to be a part of her first production at the Scoundrel & Scamp. She has taught drama in Tucson and Montana and worked with local theaters like Something Something Theatre , Live Theatre Workshop, and Tucson Fringe Festival. Her favorite roles include Viola in What, Will You? and Hermia in A Midsummer Nights Dream. She has a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Arizona. She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support.

Nicole Delprete

Nicole DelPrete (Wise One #2) is currently a junior studying Theatre and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona. She is very thankful that this is her fourth show with Scoundrel & Scramp. Previously at Scoundrel & Scamp, Nicole played the Snake in The Little Prince, Carmen in This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing and the Wife in Blood Wedding. Recent productions she has been a part of are: Three Sisters (Natasha), Flowers for Algernon (Alice Kinnian), Big Love (Thyona), and The Rimers of Eldritch (Patsy). She also is a part of the Charles Darwin Experience, an improv troupe at University of Arizona. She would like to thank her family and friends for their loving support.

Adrian Encinas

This is Adrian’s (Man of Black Diamond) second time at the Scoundrel & Scamp’s stage! He was seen in last year's S&S production of Blood Wedding playing The Moon. Adrian recently received his associates in Visual & Performing Theatre Arts at Pima Community College. He has worked with many theatre companies such as Borderlands, Live Theatre Workshop, Murder & Mysterious Dinner Theatre Playhouse, Winding Road, The Scioto Society, Inc. (Ohio), & Stories that Soar. Some of his favorite past productions included: Priscilla: Queen of the Desert the Musical (Adam Whitely), In The Heights (Ensemble), A Tucson Pastorela  (Gabriel), The Brave Knight, Sir Lancelot (BOB), Tecumseh! Carlos Omar Venegas

This is Carlos's (Man of Silver) first production with the Scoundrel & Scamp and he is excited to make his Tucson theatre debut with such a talented and supportive cast. Carlos's recent productions include American Idiot, Spring Awakening, Little Women, and Next to Normal in addition to recent acting training he received at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia. Carlos is currently pursuing a double major in Theatre and Art History at the University of Arizona as well as a minor in American Sign Language. He is also heavily involved on campus both through the University's Housing and Residential Life as well as the Arizona Ambassadors. 

Danny Fapp

Danny (Man of Stone) is thrilled to be joining the Scoundrel & Scamp for the first time with The Light Princess. Danny previously appeared in Tucson in shows like Mamma Mia (Ensemble) and She Loves Me (Waiter), as well as in the Quad Cities in A Green River (Jason). He also performs weekly at the Scoundrel & Scamp with the Charles Darwin Experience improv troupe. Danny is a sophomore at the University of Arizona currently pursuing a degree in Marketing.

Danny Quinones

Danny Quinones (Elemental) is excited to return to Scoundrel & Scamp, having worked with them in Blood Wedding. Past local works include The Big Meal (Winding Road), The Music Man (Arizona Theatre Company), Mamma Mia! (Arizona Onstage Productions), Women In Jeopardy (Live Theatre Workshop), and The Drunkard (Community Players). Furthermore, he works as an actor/stuntman at Old Tucson Studios, and works on many films and commercials, his favorite being a commercial for Roadhouse Cinemas. He’s transferring from Pima to the UofA to pursue a second degree in Music Theory. His first degree is in Cinematography from Pima CC. He hopes you enjoy the show!

Bryan Falcón

Bryan (Scenic Design) is Co-founder and Artistic Director at the Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre.  Bryan is an award-winning director (MFA Directing, Western Illinois, 2001) and tech entrepreneur with a passion for both education and building and scaling successful organizations.  

At the S&S Bryan has directed Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Love Talker & The Yellow Wallpaper, Oscar Wilde's Salomé and A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney, for which he won the 2017 Arizona Daily Star Mac Award for Best Director.

Bryan served as Artistic Director for two Indiana-based theatre companies, New World Arts and the Backporch Theatre Company. He served as a director and set designer for numerous shows, including The Carthaginians, Lysistrata, Cloud Tectonics, Night Mother, Bug, Marisol, Love Letters, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet.

In Tucson, Bryan has directed at The Rogue Theatre, including The New Electric Ballroom and Awake and Sing. He was recognized as Best Director (2012 Arizona Daily Star Mac Award) for the show The Night Heron.

Bryan serves as Chair of the Tucson-based Southwest Folklife Alliance, and as a board member at The Rogue Theatre.

Karin Beatty

Karin Beatty (Costume Design) created in New York City costumes for stage productions in a wide array of venues including Broadway, new plays, musical revues, ballet, opera and film. In California and Arizona, she was worked with Southwest Shakespeare Co. on Merry Wives of Windsor, which won the AriZonie Theatre Award, and with Sedona Shakespeare Festival. Frugal Repast with Abingdon Theatre Company (NYC) won Best Costume Design at the Abie Awards. She studied fashion design and fine arts at the Pratt Institute and sculpture at the Art Student League in NYC. She maintains a couture design studio for private clients (special occasion and bridal design). Thank you for such a wonderful theatre company and all the talented people I have to work with.

Raulie Martinez

Raulie (Lighting Design) is excited to be returning to The Scoundrel & Scamp for their third season. He studied theatre production & lighting design for four years at the University of Arizona. Past designs have included Cloud Soup; This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing; and Lovers: Part One at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre; Die Fleidermaus and The Magic Flute with The UA Opera Theatre; The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan with CYT Tucson; and Oklahoma! as well as Boeing Boeing with Arizona Repertory Theatre.

Tiffer Hill

Tiffer (Stage Manager) is proud to be in his third season as Scoundrel & Scamp’s resident SM. After a brief stint as a vocal performance major at the University of Arizona, he began working as a stagehand at the Gaslight Theatre in 2012. He continued working there full-time for the next five and a half years at the pace of at least eight shows a week, eventually stage managing 21 productions including favorites such as Arizona Smith and the Relic of Doom, Spider-Guy, and Ghostblasters!

Favorites from S&S’s past seasons include Mr Burns: a post-electric play, Lovers, and Oaf. His work as a sound designer has most recently been heard in Scoundrel & Scamp’s production of Cloud Tectonics.

Paul Elliott

The Light Princess marks Paul's (Assistant Stage Manager) inaugural show at Scoundrel and Scamp. His previous experience includes many years in wardrobe and costume at Arizona Opera and Arizona Theatre Company. Favorites that he has worked on include, Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Two Trains Running, King Charles III and Fences.
